The Opportunity

Our client, a growing, stable, and well-respected employer, is looking for a Branch Manager for a bold new concept branch opening soon in Calgary’s Northwest quadrant. We need a solid leader to be responsible for successful sales management, human resource management, and overall financial results for the branch. This isn’t the opportunity to cut your teeth on – we need a seasoned leader with proven track record of successful Branch Management within the banking sector.

Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Managing the day to day operations of a retail branch
  • Liaising within the surrounding communities to build awareness and establish a network – actively participating in community events and causes
  • Providing direction and leadership to branch staff to achieve goals
  • Leading in the development and achievement of branch sales targets and branch marketing plans
  • Coaching/Mentoring/Motivating a staff of approximately 7 consultants
  • Being proactive in pursuing new business; monitoring and ensuring financial targets are being met or exceeded for the branch
  • Preparing annual budgets/targets and monitoring/reporting on progress to the regional retail banking manager and branch staff
  • Organizing, scheduling and monitoring branch activities
  • Interviewing prospective employees and making hiring decisions
  • Establishing performance standards/plans for each employee annually
  • Evaluating performance of staff and providing regular feedback/coaching to ensure staff are meeting set performance standards, completing annual review
  • Identifying training needs of staff and ensuring staff have completed required training
  • Ensuring the working environment is positive and productive
  • Ensuring policy and procedures are followed which would ensure compliance with audit requirements
  • Ensuring staff is trained and following banking and loan procedures
  • Taking necessary action on issues or concerns arising from the annual audits

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in branch management
  • Post secondary diploma in Business Management or a Bachelor of Commerce preferred
  • Completion of a Financial Planning program (CFP/PFP) is preferred, commitment to complete these is a must
  • Working knowledge of financial products, policies, procedures and operations
  • Willingness to adapt and adjust to the new banking world – this means working some shifts outside of conventional banking hours
  • High degree of energy and ability to motivate employees
  • Successful track record of building strong, cohesive teams
  • Experience in business development initiatives within the banking sector
  • Polished communication and presentation skills
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Experience in establishing and meeting branch targets and goals
  • Proficiency in a second language (Tagalog,Hindi,Mandarine,Cantonese) an asset
