Are you a Senior Design and Estimating professional with a background in construction and manufacturing? Are you a strong leader with superior communication and problem solving skills?

The Opportunity

Our client is looking for a Design and Estimating Manager to lead their team and oversee projects from cradle to grave. Managing internal and external resources, liaising with clients and field personnel and a commitment to continuous improvement will be key components of this critical role.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Manage the design group, draftspeople, estimators and engineers and ensure professional engineering and regulatory requirements are fulfilled (including compliance of subcontractors)
  • Create and maintain cost efficient designs to meet client requirements (including calculations, assumptions, design parameters, code compliance, code compliance documentation and other design related information)
  • Actively support sales function via networking and client facing activities such as presentations and bid clarifications
  • Prepare technical proposals and RFQ evaluations
  • Liaise with, manage and execute contracts with 3rd party subcontractors
  • Follow and communicate new technological and legislative changes which affect the industry
  • Incorporate public safety considerations into designs and drawings
  • Manage approval of drawings and designs for construction
  • Complete projects within projected timelines and budgeted hours
  • Promptly communicate all technical issues and changes that could impact project schedule and/or scope or quality of work
  • Conduct site visits

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in a technical discipline is required (Ex: CET)
  • 10 + years of progressive management experience in a manufacturing or commercial construction environment
  • Experience with Project Management is considered an asset
  • Experience with modular buildings is considered an asset
  • Strong communication skills and resource management
  • Demonstrated experience in driving operational improvements and innovation
  • Strong focus on safety, quality of work and environmental awareness
