The Opportunity


Our client is seeking a Payroll Coordinator for their office located in Edmonton, AB!


Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Processes new hires, employee changes, terminations and transfers of salaried and hourly employees and prepares ROE’s as required.
  • Processes Ceridian bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles and remits all payroll and company benefit liabilities, including, but not limited to CRA, Dental, Medical, LTD and other premiums.
  • Reconciles and prepares payroll year-end reporting for salaried and hourly employees including preparation of T4’s and CRA reporting.
  • Processes yearly and off cycle salary, hourly rate and job changes.
  • Understands and interprets government legislation to ensure compliance regarding pay/deductions/benefits/taxes/documentation.
  • Maintains integrity of all payroll records.
  • Understands and interprets collective agreement to ensure correct input and application in payroll system.
  • Prepares union dues and RRSP remittances.
  • Works closely with Human Resources and Finance/Accounting on all payroll related issues.
  • Checks non-exempt personnel time sheets, utilizing an electronic time and attendance software product for compliance with policy, provincial and collective agreement requirements.
  • Reviews computed wages and corrects errors to ensure the accuracy of earnings. Ensures that all changes to payroll are processed correctly.
  • Taxable benefits administration i.e., group term life insurance, monthly parking and other reporting.
  • Works closely with HR Director to ensure accurate benefit deductions and record keeping.
  • Prepares various payroll and management reports, e.g. employee donations.
  • Prepares all garnishments, deductions and vacation/sick accruals.
  • Answers inquiries regarding employment verification and reviews the accuracy of payroll deductions to payroll output documents.
  • Responds to employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters.
  • Processes manual cheques as requested by Human Resources or Finance/Accounting.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested by the Director.
  • This is a Full-Time, Permanent position reporting directly to the Director of Finance

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Payroll designation (i.e. PCP) and/or Accounting certificate, diploma/degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of full cycle payroll experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with an emphasis on providing exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent attention to detail and seasoned problem solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain performance when faced with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce payroll input and reporting.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills and follow-up effectively with all staffing levels.
  • Ability to work independently, self-starter and energetic.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The salary range is $65,000 to $75,000 per annum. The starting salary will commensurate with education and experience.
