The Opportunity

Our South side client is seeking the next important long term addition to their organization as the new Senior Director, Finance, reporting directly to the Financial Controller and is responsible for managing the financial reporting activities for all entities, innovations and new projects. The Senior Director Finance is a member of the organizations management team and will also present Financial Statements to the Audit and Finance Committee.


  • Promote financial reporting best practices.
  • Provide business operations management with advice and guidance on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Working with each branch in the organization to update revenue and expenditure projections during the year.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Manage, train, and supervise subordinate finance staff and conduct regular staff meetings. This also includes responsibility for the hiring and performance review process for the subordinate Finance staff.
  • Manage Financial Reporting:
    • Monthly financial reports are completed accurately in accordance within schedules.
    • Updating of revenue and expenditure projections throughout the fiscal year.
    • Preparation of the Annual audited financial statements in accordance to schedules.
    • Design and develop financial reports as required.
  • Preparation, review, and approval of account reconciliation working papers, on a monthly, quarterly and year end basis.
  • Work directly with External Auditors with regards to execution of the annual audits.
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM); leader and participant in the development and updating of the finance branch’s risk identification, controls, and mitigations (risk register).
  • Assist with Banking and Treasury Management.
  • Responsible for researching and ensuring all the organization’s financial reporting practises are compliant and current with applicable Accounting and Reporting standards. That regulatory laws, standards, and taxation are adhered to. Also responsible for regulatory and return completion and filings.
  • Development and updating of finance policies and procedures as required.
  • Business planning and budgeting – work in conjunction and coordination with the Corporate Planning area to deliver the annual budget and two year forecast.
  • Oversight of the Fixed Asset subledger.


  • Accounting designation is required.
  • 10 years of management experience in an operational accounting role managing a team in a complex environment.
  • Strong experience and familiarity with Caseware.
  • Proficiency with AccPac accounting system.
  • Public practice experience having lead audit committees considered an asset.
  • Strong financial reporting experience in both the Not for Profit space, insurance, pension and/or utility retailing industries would be considered an asset.
  • Financial statement presentation experience to other levels of management and committees.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong change management, innovative problem solving, facilitation and good reasoning skills.
  • High level of integrity, with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prepare accurate, comprehensive, clear and concise financial reports.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a strong ability to motivate, coach and effectively manage team performance with a positive, “get it done” attitude.
  • Ability to compile annual budgets, forecasts and variance analysis as well as prepare business cases.
  • Advanced Excel skills
