Are you a Senior Engineering Technologist with experience in research, development and materials and mechanical testing? Are you ready to lead a department and build a team for our valued client?

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on role supporting our client’s tool testing and prototyping division. This exciting new position is perfect for a candidate who gets a great deal of satisfaction building something from the ground up. The vision for this key role will be to grow and supervise a team who are responsible to execute testing projects, support prototype manufacturing and maintain and manage equipment and inventory in the testing and prototyping facility.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Set up systems and organize lab for efficient and organized test execution.
  • Select appropriate test instrumentation and set up data acquisition systems.
  • Prototype assembly and evaluation.
  • Identify laboratory needs and recommend potential solutions.
  • Design, draft and oversee manufacturing of test specimens and test fixtures.
  • Fabricate test fixtures using machining and metalworking tools.
  • Process and interpret test data.
  • Coordinate production of prototype parts with manufacturing.
  • Manage inventory of prototype components, test specimens and text fixtures.
  • Maintain test systems and lab equipment.
  • Build a team to support the testing and prototyping functions; this will eventually involve directly supervising department staff and handling all aspects of personnel management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A Mechanical Technologist Diploma, Machinist or Millwright Journeyman certification (or similar qualification).
  • 10 years of related manufacturing/product development/laboratory support experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Problem solving skills, scientific curiosity and attention to detail.
  • The ability to read and interpret machining drawings.
  • Expertise in the operation of machining and metal-working equipment is an asset.
  • Experience with solid-modelling CAD software.
  • Experience in a shop environment.
