Payroll Manager- Contract (6-month minimum)

Our long-term client is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join their expanding team for a 6-month (minimum duration) contract, with the potential to become permanent over the course of contract.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Lead, coach and mentor the payroll team consisting of three direct reports.
  • Oversee all payroll operations. Process semi-monthly, weekly and off-cycle payment cycles.
  • Handle union and government remittances, balance sheet reconciliations and the balancing of payroll and union’s year end as well as T4’s, T2200’s, taxable benefits and annual filings.
  • Administration and reconciliation of group medical plans.
  • Review and deal with weekly payroll tax liabilities, and tax agency inquires.
  • Resolve any GL account issues related to payroll.
  • Create payroll reports from internal and external requests.
  • Work with Ceridian to resolve any new payroll programming or changes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or Accounting.
  • Ceridian knowledge and experience a requirement
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience in a management role.
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian income tax regulations, record of employment legislation, and WCB/WSIB.
  • Previous experience dealing with collective agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention and ability to multi task is a must.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze tax data and perform various calculations.
  • Proficient in MS Office and experience with Ceridian.
