The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced Tax Accounting and Compliance Analyst to join the Finance Team on a 12-month contract. Reporting to the Controller, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in ensuring the on-time reporting of a high volume of fixed assets and financial data as well as preparing various tax filings and coordinating audits with tax authorities. This unique role will deliver on both accounting and tax functionalities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Balance SAP fixed asset ledger to general ledger and Hyperion (HFM) on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain fixed asset ledger (additions, disposals and depreciation).
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset reports and capital expenditure reconciliations.
  • Monitor the timely process of asset commissioning.
  • Maintain SAP units of production depreciation tables.
  • Work with external and government auditors on royalty return, GST return and year end audits.
  • Complete royalty accounting.
  • Depreciation forecasting for all business units during the budget and forecast cycles.
  • Prepare current tax provisions and deferred tax provisions continuity schedules in line with the accounting policy (including preparation of supplemental schedules for half year and year end reporting).
  • Provide input on tax provisions for business planning cycles.
  • Lead and support tax planning initiatives.
  • Accurate and timely preparation and filing of: GST/HST/QST/ insurance excise tax/royalty returns.
  • Review of non-resident withholding tax, remittance of monthly payments to CRA, prepare and file annual T4A-NRs with vendors and summary with CRA.
  • Complete working papers and supporting documentation for diamond royalty returns as well as federal and provincial tax returns.
  • Provide on-going support to the business with any queries as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A University degree in Finance or Accounting and a CPA designation is required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in an accounting-based position is necessary.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a tax or royalty focused position is essential.
  • Previous experience in the mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing industry.
  • Advanced SAP knowledge, specifically within the asset accounting (FI-AA) subsidiary ledger and PS modules.
  • Demonstrated experience with monthly capital reporting and fixed assets accounting.
  • Strong expertise preparing working papers and information for various tax filings (royalties, indirect taxes, non-resident withholding taxes, excise taxes) and CRA audits.
  • Time management skills, strong work ethic and proven critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detailed orientated.
  • Adaptability to change and capable of working in a cross-functional business team.
