The Opportunity We are searching for a Vice President, Finance & Operations for a wonderful client who is a highly innovative, and strategic. The role is a term role for an 8-month duration. The successful candidate will oversee the financial and operational health of the organization, as well as provide leadership and direction at the Senior Executive Level. Bringing experience in the private sector, as well as the not for profit sector, in addition to having large company experience will be critical to ones understanding of the functions of the organization and no doubt will aid in the overall success throughout this term position. Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Finance & Operations key priorities will also focus greatly on the successful management, implementation and execution of the current strategic plan of this growing Foundation.
As a member of the Management Team, the Vice President-Finance & Operations is responsible for the following functions: Finance & Investments. Accountability of Funded Projects. Human Resources & Volunteer Resources. Donation Services. Information Technology & Management. Legal and Risk Management. Facilities and Property Management.
The Vice President, Finance & Operations oversees fourteen passionate professionals, dedicated to providing the most efficient and effective operational support. Within this team, the Vice President, Finance & Operations has four direct reports.
Ensuring the Finance & Operations team is supported in all areas of focus. Consistently expressing the financial and operational impact of new initiatives and initiatives that impact the broader Foundation with the Senior Leadership Team. Proactively addressing and supporting the resolution of any unanticipated issues and opportunities as it relates to the financial or operational areas of the Foundation. Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring the coordination and facilitation of the next long term strategic plan (2020 â 202X). Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team on the strategy and direction of the 2020/2021 Operational Plan including engaging and leading the Finance & Operations team in a one-year operational plan for the Finance & Operations.
Department Through coaching the Director of Finance, support the execution of the transition of the Foundation’s $150M investment portfolio’s management structure and asset mix in alignment to the transition plan. Through coaching the Director of Finance, support the development and roll out of robust financial reporting processes for decision making across the Foundation. Work collaboratively with the People Services Specialist on executing the transition of the Foundation from a traditional Personnel Management human resources approach to a Strategic Human Resources Management (HRM) system to drive culture.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Support the leadership team through coordination of the next long term strategic planning. Work collaboratively with the President and Senior Leadership Team on opportunities and issues impacting the strategy of the Foundation. Ensure the Foundation maintains the Imagine Canada national accreditation standards and the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy High Performer status. Financial Leadership. Maintain financial oversight of the Foundation through coaching the Director of Finance. Support the Director of Finance through overseeing the Foundation’s financial reporting, regulatory compliance (CRA & AGLC), industry benchmarking and banking and the completion of the annual audit. Lead staff liaison supporting the Finance & Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees. Accountability. Through coaching the Director, Accountability support refining and maintaining of accountability processes for: requests for funding, endowed and established funds, reporting on funding sources and use of funds, recipient and donor agreements and distributions. Support the Foundation’s research competitions as required. Support the Director, Accountability as needed as she liaises with the Funding Priorities Committee of the Board of Trustees. People Leadership. Provide leadership and support to the People Services Specialist with a focus on transitioning the Foundation from a traditional Personnel Management human resources approach to a Strategic Human Resources Management (HRM) system. Support full cycle human resources for an complex organization of 42 employees. Provide leadership and indirect support to the part-time Volunteer & Stewardship Coordinator on the build out of a robust volunteer program at the Foundation. Operational Leadership. Support the President and Board Secretary on the preparation and execution of governance requirements for the Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees. Review of contracts, RFPs, insurance and legal correspondence. Through coaching an Executive Assistant, ensure appropriate reception and administrative support for the Foundation. Support oversight of information technology and management, legal and risk management and facilities and property management as required.
Professional Skills & Qualifications
Professional Qualifications: Post-secondary degree in business is required. Successful completion of a formal accounting designation or a Master’s in Business Administration with strong financial acumen or related discipline. Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience with at least five (5) years of successful and responsible leadership position in a similar or larger sized organization. Broad understanding of organizational functions, including finance and investments, accountability, human resources and governance is required. Experience overseeing volunteer resources, donation services, legal and risk management, information technology management and facilities and property management would be an asset. Not for profit sector experience. Exceptional financial acumen and an understanding of the investment climate. Demonstrated track record in strategic and operational planning and project management from concept to execution. Experience working with a fundraising and/or governance Board. Strong change management skills.
