The Opportunity

Our well established and growing Red Deer Client is looking forward to welcoming a new key member to their Executive Management Team. The new VP of Finance will provide leadership to not only their local operations, but all locations currently. They are positioned for exciting growth locally and internationally in both the short and long term. The new Vice President of Finance (VP Finance) will be responsible for planning, execution and implementation of new finance reporting and procedures. This strategic role oversees all finance related activities, financial growth plans, major projects/initiatives while also working to mitigate risk and exposure.
The VP of Finance will have a proven track record of being a strategic leader. This individual will have experience in Canada, the US and internationally from within the Oil and Gas, manufacturing or industrial service sectors for privately held organizations. The ideal candidate will hold an accounting designation, with many years of progressive and proven experience excelling both on an individual and team level in decentralized business models. A challenge seeker and an incredibly composed and persuasive communicator with a thirst for knowledge and strong leadership/coaching skills will do best in this group. Through proper execution and oversee of business planning, budgeting, forecasting and negotiations, the VP Finance will be a highly effective, innovative key member of the executive leaders they are joining. The successful leader will be considered a key contributor to the Company’s Executive Management Team and will aid in the successful creation and execution of the strategic growth plan as well as their teams on going professional development and growth.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to and taking full responsibility from the CEO/President.
  • Providing strategic leadership of the Corporate Accounting and Finance department.
  • Full responsibility for the direction, mentorship, management and growth of the Corporate Accounting and Finance department locally and across various branches.
  • Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO/President and the Senior Executive Management team.
  • Management and of the budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, formal contact for external audit.
  • Overseeing the preparation of the full cycle accounting and all day to day activities of the Accounting group. (G/L, reconciliations accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll (remitting), financial reporting, and taxation).
  • Oversee and manage the team’s adherence to timelines, project deliverables.
  • Reviewing and overseeing the completion of proper financials in line with GAAP.
  • Advise on long-term business and financial planning, while managing the Bank relationships.
  • Establish trust and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders for the Companies benefit, and prosperity.
  • Review and audit all formal finance procedures ensuring internal controls followed.
  • Assist in formulating the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Oversee employee benefit plans, with emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package.
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate while adjudicating (pros/cons) where opportunities exist.
  • Construct and monitor reliable system documentation and internal control systems.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and communicate with them as well as relay and consider their findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure that document control is in line with codes and standards, meeting the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate and meaningful for the organization’s operations.
  • Certify that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements regionally, nationally and internationally as growth continues.
  • Maintains financial staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Mentors and challenges Accounting staff members through effective coaching, delegation of duties, providing direction and through establishing accountability for employees.
  • Effective planning, monitoring, and appraising job results for ongoing excellence.
  • Oversee the cycle count program and the year end physical counts.


Qualifications, Values and Competencies:

  • In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Advanced Excel skills and well versed in various financial management software’s.
  • Ability to think outside the box and work in a ‘hands on’ role while performing Operational and Cost Accounting processes and procedures.
  • High sense of urgency in providing strong level of service and follow-through.
  • A Degree followed by a master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics is required.
  • A designated CPA, CMA, CGA, CA mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the senior level accounting and finance.
  • Preference given to those experienced with Great Plains Dynamics and SalesPad software but not mandatory.
  • Experience in finance and operations in the USA and internationally considered an asset.
  • Capability to handle finance and operational accounting for USA and other international subsidiaries.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary of 120k-150K base range, plus bonus, plus (share options) and a comprehensive benefits package will be provided.
