Unemployment – Aug Numbers

Nationally, the jobless rate fell to 7.1% in August from 7.2% the previous month, with added 59,000 net jobs, greater than the 20,000 expected.  B.C.’s jobless rate fell by 0.1% to 6.6% compared with the month previous, and remains well below the national unemployment rate of 7.1%. In Alberta, employment rose by 15,000, which Statistics Canada says is the fourth notable increase in five months. The province’s unemployment rate was 4.8%. Most of the employment gains were concentrated among people aged 55 and older, there was little change among youths and people between the ages of 25 and 54.
