The Opportunity
Our client, a leader in workforce accommodations, is seeking a Construction Manager to run the daily site operations within Western Canada. The Construction Manager will organize, coordinate, and supervise the construction team; as well as, budget and evaluate the activities of the construction project(s) from cradle to grave. This is a full-time, permanent, salaried position with a rotation of 14×14 or 14×7 or 21×7 (fly-in, fly-out schedule). 

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Delegate daily tasks to the work crew, manage the assigned work crew; including, planning work schedules with focus on meeting project needs, and supervise the construction team.
  • Provide support to the Project Manager in developing and managing the operational budget for the construction project and ensure that established performance targets, such as financial, quality, safety and manpower are achieved.
  • Monitor and control access to the job site.
  • Review the Scope of Work.
  • Manager cost control and organize the work site to minimize the risk of loss or damage.
  • Ensure that completed work meets or exceeds project specifications and quality standards.
  • Direct manpower planning and approve all new hires.
  • Oversee employee training in the use of operational techniques and/or new equipment, systems and processes. Lead new hire and departmental orientation to construction workers.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings and Hazard Assessments with the construction team and conduct Field Level Risk Assessments and safety analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with the OHS, environmental and labour legislation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of proven Construction Management experience in modular, residential, or light commercial construction is required.
  • Journeyperson Certification in carpentry, electrical, plumbing or sheet metal fields would be considered an asset.
  • Related industry safety tickets and supervisory training is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean 5-year driver’s abstract is required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Well-developed business and financial acumen and along with strong project management skills is required.
  • Proven experience in driving operational improvements.
  • Exceptional ability to network, develop, establish and manage business relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction legislation, regulations, building codes, HSE and employment legislation, industry practices and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly effective negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Full-time, permanent, salaried position, that includes benefits.
  • Work is location at industrial construction sites and remote locations within Western Canada.
  • Frequent rotation between job sites in Western Canada is required.
  • Rotation is subject to change depending on operational requirements. Work rotation depends on operational requirements and can be in a form of schedules, such as: 14×14, 21×7, or 14×7 or other suitable work rotation.
  • The typical regularly scheduled hours of work are 10-12 hours per day.
