The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Service Manager to join their Fort Saskatchewan operations. Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the Service Manager will manage a team of mechanics and parts persons’, coordinate and execute the maintenance schedule, adjust the work schedule accordingly and liaise closely with the operations team. They will ensure parts are stored in their proper location for easy access and implement a system to ensure that stock levels are monitored to guarantee the inventory to be accurate and consistent with the requirements of the service department, commercial, and wholesale accounts. The Service Manager will create cohesion to ensure that all necessary parts are delivered to mechanics and field technicians in a timely and efficient manner.  They will be an active team member, completing hands on work as required.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Conduct a morning check-in with all employees and assess fit to work.
  • Check and approve time cards for hours worked, work performed, proper time card coding.
  • Provides technical assistance to employees and customers.
  • Hands on manager, completing work on the floor as needed.
  • Participate in the hiring process for new personnel and ensure all new hires/transfers receive required orientations.
  • Attend and participate in site specific orientations; coordinate with the Equipment Manager to ensure proper training of personnel.
  • Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections and complete follow-up activities.
  • Fill out requisitions and order parts for jobs and shop consumables.
  • Review daily/weekly work plans and ensure appropriate actions are taken to address KPI performance issues.
  • Secure and ensure proper deployment of job resources, including: ordering parts, requesting personnel, tools and consumables.
  • Maintains Purchase Orders and ensures system and process is followed appropriately.
  • Issues all parts and supplies to Field Technicians and records transactions on the appropriate work order.
  • Monitor stock level and order additional inventory as required and liquidate surplus and slow-moving inventory as required.
  • Advise the Equipment Manager on inventory cost controls and parts & supplies pricing to ensure optimum profitability of the company.
  • Conduct incident investigations and prepare associated support documentation immediately.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5-10 years’ experience with Service Center supervision and Parts Management.
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician Certification is considered an asset.
  • Journeyman Parts Person Certification is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience relating to shop/field supervision is considered an asset.
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience is required.
  • Ability to competently and safely operate: forklifts, dollies, shop tools, and other shop equipment.
  • Strong Inventory Management skills.
  • CSTS, WHMIS, and standard First Aid.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel and conduct site visits is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Overtime may be required.
