The Opportunity

Are you an Operations Manager with an Engineering background, specific to Electrical Engineering? Then this may be the position for you! Our client is seeking a strong Engineering Operations Manager for their Edmonton operation to oversee and manage the Edmonton office and project work.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Supervise the Edmonton office personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment, termination, and discipline of staff in conjunction with human resources.
  • Administer probationary and annual review for direct reports. Provide feedback to senior management for compensation reviews.
  • Motivate direct reports and teams. Working with direct reports to identify career paths (with assistance from senior management).
  • Oversee the development of staff competence and assist in the training and teaching of new employees.
  • Coordinate employee time off requests and manage unplanned scheduling issues.
  • Participate in management meetings and provide input and feedback on the direction of the company.
  • Review office specific reports and establish plans to improve the office performance.
  • Align the office vision, mission and values with the corporate mission vision and values.
  • Oversee scheduling of projects to ensure they are completed on schedule.
  • Assist with project coordination and manage projects in terms of design and staff.
  • Forecast workload for the staff and work with other management to help level load work where possible.
  • Strive to accomplish company goals by improving quality of designs and setting standards.
  • Manage cost and time components of projects to ensure profitability.
  • Work with clients to provide the best and most appropriate design solutions for their projects.
  • Provide guidance to technical staff to ensure projects are technically sound and completed successfully.
  • Attend client, vendor or site visits. Communicate with clients on project expectations and alternate methods to complete the projects, including deescalate issues.
  • Review drawings and check for quality control.
  • Develop and implement tools. Working with the admin team, senior management and other managers to develop engineering and company standards.
  • Ensure there is strong project focus on profitability, meeting deadlines, and maintaining and positively influencing the organizations reputation.
  • Partner with other managers when projects or prospective project involve more than one office.
  • Manage and develop existing relationships with clients, and identity and pursue
    potential clients and markets (working with the Business Development Manager).
  • Review and approve project proposals.
  • Engage in commercial or contractual arrangements with 3rd parties.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven management skills of a group of engineers and designers.
  • Registration with ASET as a CET or APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
  • 4 years applicable Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal effectively with clients and other personnel.
  • Detailed understanding of project proposal writing.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, and available to attend out of office meetings.
