Our client is seeking a Vice President of Construction for their Edmonton-based operations.
This Design Build General Contractor has an enviable reputation in the industry and undertakes work in the low rise commercial, light industrial and infrastructure sectors.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions Provide leadership and vision for the construction element of our company, working to enhance this vision while reporting to the President. Success in the role requires the provision of effective management and liaison with senior managers of the company to determine, communicate and oversee the construction portions of the workload. Responsible and accountable for managing all aspects of the construction process from inception to turnkey project execution, including design, cost, schedule and quality management. The successful individual will utilize their knowledge to set the strategic direction for procurement, site construction, commissioning, and turn over, while managing critical relationships with customers and subcontractors that are essential to the ongoing success of the company. The position is part of the senior management within the business and the successful candidate will be required to work closely with the other members of the team.
Required Skills and Qualifications The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the building industry and be well versed in different forms of contract and contract negotiation. Strong understanding of contract law, as it pertains to construction contracts, and have a detailed knowledge of various types of construction methods and constructability generally. A broad understanding of design, procurement, off site fabrication, construction, commissioning and turnover to a client. An in-depth knowledge of project scheduling and cost controls as it pertains to construction projects. A proven understanding of estimating, relevant construction codes, standards and practice, and project management best practices. A proven ability to lead teams, assess progress, performance and quality of work from all levels of staff. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a diplomatic negotiation approach and effective conflict resolution skills. Excellent letter writing skills together with a proven command of the English language. The ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a constantly changing environment, together with effective time management and organizational skills. A proven commitment to health and safety leadership. Reasonable computer skills; Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Project.
