The Opportunity

Our client in North East Calgary is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join their team.  The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for completing analytical and operational inquiries by developing thoughtful, and thorough practical analyses and reports to inform decisions and support business needs.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Analyze sales & marketing programs and transactional customer data to identify relationships between sales & marketing initiatives and both store and customer profitability; perform ROI analysis that assists in optimizing marketing spend
  • Conduct operational analyses
  • Analyze in-market strategic initiatives and business performance using test and control analytics, benchmarking, statistical concepts, and financial measures to guide decision making by brand and sales teams
  • Prepare and review information to be used for the annual planning process
  • Review plans submitted by other departments to identify any discrepancies
  • Quality control to ensure all information is returned, and correct
  • Account analysis for key accounts, to ensure correctness before period close
  • Variance analysis of key income and expense lines for reporting to Director of Finance and VP Operations, Western Canada
  • Preparation of a comprehensive review of the period’s results highlighting any areas that need management attention
  • Special project reporting as a result of requests from Laval corporate accounting, VP Operations, Director of Merchandising or Regional Directors of Operations
  • Development of new reports designed to assist operations in running of stores and markets
  • Other duties as assigned

 Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Financial Designation (CPA preferred), supported by University degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Math, or other quantitative or technical discipline is required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of analytical experience
  • Proven analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational abilities and the ability to work effectively with different levels of management and across different functions
