Key Responsibilities

Leadership and strategy:

  • Lead a diverse team of professionals in handling multiple large scope projects.
  • Oversee and document proper assessment, strategic planning and execution of multiple large project initiatives, reporting results and progress to the senior executive members in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the annual business plan by assisting the senior leadership team to develop IT strategy and prioritize IT initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with program leaders both internally to comprehensively understand their information, process and technology needs across functional business departments.
  • Research, innovate and collaborate to propose best practice options for technology initiatives.
  • Identify resources required for various initiatives both internal and external while scheduling implications in collaboration with program leaders.
  • Prepare and maintain an IT business plan that aligns with the organizations strategic and operational business plans and proactively report on status.

Resource Management:

  • Create and maintain multi-year resource plans to ensure the IT team has the people resources required to maintain core programs and deliver on projects.
  • Inspire, lead, manage and empower the IT team.
  • Support, mentor, coach and monitor career development in collaboration with team members.
  • Where possible build bench strength and resiliency by ensuring cross training occurs for all positions to encourage retention and further development.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external vendors.

Business Continuity: Network and operating System and Systems Analysis

  • Oversee information security, integrity, and availability by ensuring the following:
    • Backup systems are in place and regularly tested
    • Required configuration documentation is in place
    • Accesses management procedures
    • Ensures IT policies are followed.
  • Monitor service desk effectiveness, taking ultimate responsibility for satisfactory issue resolution.
  • Review the hardware and software budgets prior to submission to the overall budget.
  • Lead IT policy development, review policy revisions and achieve policy approval.
  • Evaluate vendors, conduct contract negotiations and manage agreements on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain and document overall systems architecture.
  • Provide a steady hand in direction regarding systems analysis and design, adhering to best practices.
  • Develop and administer systematic processes to analyze program areas on a cyclical basis and to receive and analyze ad hoc requests.
  • Document technical requirements to satisfy the college’s business requirements.


Project Planning and management

  • Take ownership of all IT projects and see them through to completion and end-user satisfaction via the following:
    • defining scope of projects, target points and tasks
    • developing detailed project plans
    • delegating project workload (internal)
    • developing requests for proposals (RFPs) and managing this process from cradle to grave and all measures in between
    • continually monitoring project progress to identify opportunities and risks, adapting project plans to ensure success
    • providing comprehensive and regular project reports to the senior leadership team
  • Administer quality assurance, ensuring code review and user-acceptance testing.


Business Intelligence and data analytics

  • Ensure that the college and specific stakeholders have access to data and reports that are secure, timely, accurate, and insightful.
  • Enable collection and management of information from one or more sources, and the interpretation and distribution of this business intelligence to one or more audiences.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science or related field a must
  • Proven IT leadership skills with a track record for success within challenging project environment that require major overhaul, review assessment and improvements.
  • Hold at least five years’ experience in progressive leadership roles that include; cross functional working groups, senior executives, multiple vendors and stakeholder negotiations.
  • Project management expertise with numerous internal systems while managing various external vendors, support resources at the same time.
  • Has an excellent well-honed ability to apply and execute on the following project management methodologies and tools:
    • experience developing RFPs
    • evaluating proposals and business systems analysis including performing panoramic systems analysis,
    • developing mapping and executing business functions
    • supporting applications and configuration
    • an understanding and high-level experience with consolidating disparate data sources and distilling information for the intended purpose; and
    • management certification, project management professional designation, and formal leadership training are considered strong assets.
  • Am equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
