The Opportunity

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Billing supervisor is a highly visible role that requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department. As the Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading the newly formed billing department that will be responsible for billing, posting and collection of accounts receivable. In addition to billing and collection functions, the project accounting manager will review project costing reasonableness and adherence to company policy.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Oversee and direct the day-to-day workflow to ensure timely billing and receivables.
  • Coordinate with payroll to ensure all costs are included in the billing process.
  • Work to resolve issues such as customer short pays, billing errors and cash application errors.
  • Act as a resource to off-site billing specialists to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Month end unbilled explanations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly at all levels of malmanagement.
  • Collaborate closely with operations and project control functions to drive process improvements and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the accurate and timely month/quarter/year end closing process.
  • Review project costs and billing for reasonableness. Help support project reviews and variance analysis with operations and project controls.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations as needed and collaborate with the Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Reporting.
  • Work in partnership with other department managers to support overall team goals and objectives.
  • Lead year-end audit for project specific items related to unbilled and billed AR.
  • Coach, mentor and supervise staff.
  • Drive the best culture and initiatives throughout the accounting team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in high volume client billing.
  • Experience in full cycle accounting, with direct supervision responsibilities of day-to-day operations of accounting function.
  • Strong with MS Office.
  • SAP Biz One experience an asset.
  • Billing: 7 years.
  • CPA Designation work: 2 years.
  • Project Accounting: 4 years.
