The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Branch Manager will be responsible for direction and oversight of Calgary project construction.  Management of project cost, staffing, and scheduling will require daily communication with clients/consultants/sub-contractors and internal management. Much of the time will be spent on activities to lead your team to manage projections, meet deadlines, comply to specifications and ultimately meet financial goals.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Outline expectations and hard targets re: project cost estimates, plans and budget.
  • Research, review and due diligence leading to the awarding of tender.
  • Communicate with contractors, sub-trades and project staff to ensure alignment.
  • Establish work-safe culture, maintain compliance with HSE regulations.
  • Give direction and coach assigned field engineering and project staff.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement, including staff and process reviews.
  • Lead preparation of proposals and contracts for prospective clients in local market.
  • Use personal network to identify business opportunities and seek out partnerships.
  • Assign personnel to oversee projects, manage clients.
  • Represent the organization at industry related events.
  • Leads the preparation of project budgets for the purpose of business development.
  • Manage office staff and work programs to align with corporate goals.

 Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Engineering or related area.
  • LEED certification as required.
  • Experience &/or training in (Database, Estimating software, Asbestos Awareness, Mould Awareness).
  • Certification or designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) may be required.
  • At least 7 years commercial project management experience is required.
  • E.T., P. Eng, Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent strongly desired.
  • Gold Seal certification an asset.
  • LEED accreditation an asset.
  • Previous Branch Management experience an asset.
  • Communication; ability to facilitate meetings and prepare professional presentations.
  • Effective resolution and conflict management skills.
  • Analytical skills: statistical data; analysing, classifying and rating project financial impacts and/or success; maintaining accurate records.
