The Opportunity

The Payroll Manager is an experienced dynamic leader, who is responsible for the delivery of excellent customer-focused payroll, affecting more than 1,500 individuals annually. Working under the general direction of the Corporate Controller, the successful Payroll Manager will possess sound and comprehensive knowledge and skills in all payroll, benefit and pension transactions and services to assure that the Company is compliant with federal and provincial statutes and collective agreements.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

  • Lead, coach and mentor the payroll team locally and across decentralized settings/locations.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Company’s complex payroll, processing bi- weekly and off-cycle payment cycles.
  • Maintains consistency and accuracy of all 20 plus Company payrolls.
  • The Payroll Manager is responsible for timely and accurate Union & Government remittances, balance sheet reconciliations and the balancing of Payroll and Union’s year end as well as T4’s, T2200’s, taxable benefits and all annual filings.
  • Administration and reconciliation of group medical plans.
  • Find discrepancies and resolve any GL Account issues related to payroll.
  • Create payroll reports from internal and external requests.
  • Direct and coordinate any new branch payroll system merging and collaborate with internal department to ensure computer and communication requirements are installed.
  • Creates payroll reports based upon internal and external requests.
  • Work with Ceridian to resolve any new payroll programming or changes.
  • Develop, create, facilitate and maintain effective written communication for Payroll administrators and employees regarding new or updated payroll/benefit processes or offerings
  • Responsible for all payroll reporting and analytics ongoing, monthly, quarterly and yearly.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting an asset.
  • Ceridian knowledge and experience are requirements.
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience in a management role.
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation in is a requirement.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian income tax regulations, record of employment legislation, and WCB/WSIB.
  • Previous experience dealing with Unions and Collective Agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and multi tasking ability is a must.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze tax data and perform various calculations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
