Our client is looking for someone with superior analytical and problem-solving skills to bring to the table and provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to customers and colleagues to deliver best in class payroll services. As the Payroll Specialist, you are the second in command in a dynamic team responsible for accurately paying 900+ employees in 8 provinces and 2 territories across Canada.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions Provide expertise to team members and act as a key resource for advising on payroll coding and taxable implications. Responsible for completing all year end requirements, including producing T4’s, employee share purchase program and creating customized reports. Ensuring compliance and accuracy for processing ADP Workforce Now payroll including: setting up new hires; processing terminations; changing pay rates; recording taxable benefits; and other entries and adjustments as needed. Provide support to Regional Managers regarding timesheets, vacation tracking, labour coding and report building, and payroll reports. Create and upload entries for multiple company accounts, with separate entries for payroll balancing, new properties, position or pay codes. Research discrepancies of payroll information and documentation to ensure accuracy. Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents (invoices, payroll register, stop payments, workers’ compensation cheques, payroll tax, garnishees, health taxes, etc.) meeting compliance requirements, and providing audit references. Compile data from a wide variety of sources for analyzing issues and ensuring compliance with mandated requirements. Maintain a wide variety of payroll information, files and records in written and electronic formats for an up-to-date reference and audit trail. Provide coverage and support to the Payroll Manager as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications 5-7 years’ experience with Canadian payroll and experience using ADP Workforce Now. Knowledge of employment labour standards for all provinces and territories. PCP and CPM designations are a serious asset. Demonstrated experience handling confidential information with discretion. Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a high volume of data is required. Highly organized with solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
