Senior Accountant

Great permanent opportunity for a Senior Accountant with an exciting, vibrant and expanding company!

The Opportunity

Our Client, located in Edmonton is currently looking for a full time Senior Accountant to join their team. This individual will be reporting to the Corporate Controller and will have to work well autonomously and as a team player.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

Understands and promotes the Company’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.

Understands and adheres to Company standards, policies, procedures, and practices.

Maintains effective working relationships and communications with other company departments and personnel.

Foster the team environment and create a “group culture”.

Drive and maintain a high level of efficiency and productivity.

Actively seek and keep abreast of all relevant industry/occupational knowledge, changes and potential opportunities through the pursuit and participation of training, industry specific literature, industry, trade or professional specific associations and education.

Reviewing financial statement fluctuations and researching significant variances.

Ensuring balance sheet accounts are fairly stated, liability accounts are adequately reserved, and reconciling items are properly supported and cleared in a timely manner.

Reviewing month end closing processes and procedures to shorten deadlines.

Developing and implementing sound accounting policies, practices and internal control systems.

Managing annual and project audits ensuring financial statements, working papers and documents meet audit requirements.

Ensure the companies’ working capital position is managed and maximized through appropriate accounts receivable billing and accounts payable policies and processes.

Ensure that a proper system to collect information about daily cash inflows and outflows is in place and appropriately monitored.

Review & analyze financial proposals and contracts.

Negotiate terms of lending agreements with finance companies.

Backup for the Corporate Controller.

Assist in the training of administrative personnel as well as other department personnel as duties relate to accounting functions.

Provide backup for accounting and administrative staff functions as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 + years of experience in a similar role.
  • CPA Designation or working towards one.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Personable and charismatic.

Compensation and Benefits

  • 70-85K Salary will vary depending on experience.
  • A comprehensive benefits package will be offered.
