The Opportunity – Senior Operation Auditor
Our client, a major midstream company is seeking a Senior Operation Auditor to be based in Calgary, AB or Houston, TX. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and conducting business process, risk, compliance and operational assessments; carrying out independent, objective reviews of Company activities; providing analyses and customer-focused recommendations. Act as the Auditor-in-Charge on select engagements which involves leading the team during the planning and execution phases as well as drafting the audit report.
Key Account Responsibilities and Functions Participate in/establish the audit scope and objectives to ensure activities are consistent with the ethics, values and strategic objectives of the Company. Take ownership of and perform end to end audits including planning, scoping, fieldwork, testing and the delivery of high-quality audit reports both verbal and written. Lead teams on select engagements (acting as the Auditor-in-Charge) providing junior staff members with coaching and performing first level of review of their work, as appropriate. Perform detailed risk and control assessments of areas under audit consideration. Develop and execute audit programs and procedures to effectively address the risks, controls and governance issues identified – this includes estimating and obtaining required resources and setting realistic deadlines. Identify and resolve complex issues and provide recommendations which add value. Communicate the results of work by preparing audit reports to appropriate parties, which may include Executive and senior management and the Board of Directors. Conduct/assist in research and analysis of technical and best-practice standards; Work with external auditors on selected assignments. Perform special project work at the request of management or the Audit Finance & Risk Committee. Promote the Internal Audit function within the organization.
Scope/Dimensions All Corporate Office functions – Operating budget:> $20 billion Revenue & $18 billion of expenditures. Reports to the Manager, Internal Audit. Numerous relationships with outside auditors and consultants, senior management and professional staff throughout the Corporate Office and affiliates. Office Environment. Works on externally and self-imposed project deadlines. Reasonable North American travel.
Required Skills and Qualifications University degree, Certified Internal Auditor, MBA, or other professional designation would be an asset. A minimum of 5 – 7 years, post-qualification, of audit, finance or other relevant experience. Strong understanding of audit procedures and internal controls. Strong business acumen and knowledge of progressive audit practises; process development; performance bench-marking. Operational audit experience (Health & Safety, etc.) and oil and gas experience is an asset. Excellent communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal) allowing clear communication of simple to complex concepts/ideas appropriately tailored to target audiences. Strong organizational and teamwork skills, including ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects. High level of analytical skills facilitating the development of complex audit plans or analyzes and the creation of new ideas. Demonstrates great diplomacy and tact. Builds informal/formal network of mutually beneficial relationships. Strong customer service orientation that anticipates and understands customers long and short-term needs. Excellent facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills at various management levels of the organisation. Ability to work independently. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, where appropriate.
