Amazing Opportunity for a Procurement Specialist!

Our client is a vertically integrated forestry products producer who is looking for a driven Procurement Specialist to join their Calgary Corporate Office. The Position is primarily based in Calgary but will require some travel throughout British Columbia to other plant locations while supporting and working closely with plant supervisors and management. This role will report to the VP level and will work to ensure all materials and services are procured and delivered in a timely manner while minimizing commercial risk and enhancing competitive advantage. Some responsibilities and duties may include:
Responsibilities and Functions

  • Work closely with plant management and supervisors in BC, in the procurement of materials and services as required.
  • Develop and conduct pre-qualification activities, assessing sourcing risk and ensuring vendors meet all standards.
  • Assist management in the preparation and issuance of competitive sourcing and tender documents, coordinate commercial meetings to perform commercial bid analysis, review bid evaluations and develop recommendations as required;
  • Communicate with plant management to oversee procurement plans and ensure procurement strategies are line with standards, maintain efficient records for orders and ensure that all costs are captured within the purchase order system;
  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process, ensuring all vendor obligations and commitments are met;
  • Work with vendors to expedite orders of materials and assist in resolution of incomplete or incorrect shipments;
  • Develop and maintain preferred vendor contracts with associated vendor managed inventory programs;
  • Take ownership in the resolution of invoice and/or payment issues related to purchase orders and conduct timely close out of purchase orders;


  • Assist with transitioning from a manual procurement process to an automated workflow and new system implementation;


  • Develop best practices for procurement and assist with documentation of policies and supporting processes and procedures and educate plant supervisors about these policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in cross functional meetings and collaborate with the team to share lessons learned, best practices and problem solve issues and opportunities as they arise; and
  • Manage external relationships with vendors, while educating the vendor community on our client’s processes and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Business, Operations Management or other related disciplines;


  • Manufacturing supply chain / procurement / sourcing experience

, preferably wood manufacturing but other discreet manufacturing experience is acceptable;


  • Proficiency with MS Excel and other relevant computer applications;
  • Data analysis skills with the ability to gather, analyze and disseminate information;
  • Prior continuous improvement experience is preferred;
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively with a diverse organizational group;
  • Experience with a new system implementation would be an asset;
  • Positive and enthusiastic work ethic and attitude.
